Farewell

"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die." - Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

Rest easy.

..he lived deeply and evolved into a true virtue that was never ever hypocritical in order to 'fit' in with the swelling masses of swines: parasites: psychic maggots: and the deceptions cast forth by the pimp-daddies in politics and mainstream media supporting the current political zeitgeist of repression and suppression with the states:

but then again -- didn't good ol' hunter show us the way to truly evolving by developing our own personal virtues that honour the individual which then becomes creatively free to truly honour the many.....

thank you hunter for all of the laughs and for showing us throughout your life to live on the only virtues that matters:

our own.

by coincedance i was sitting in chapters discussing the recurring theme of god sending his only son down to earth to teach humans when i noticed a young man sitting reading "fear and loathing..." and wondering what he would make of it all.this morning i read of hunter`s demise.
what does one say.
to make a career out of pointing out that the emporor has no clothes.
well done.
best of luck with the next thing.

From FafBlog:

Don’t believe their filthy lies. Giblets saw the Good Doctor with his own two eyes just a few hours ago, heading north in the White Whale. He said he was headed up to heaven to shoot God. “The great bastard’s in season and it’s long overdue,” the Godfather of Gonzo said as he dusted off his elephant gun. “I have full reason to believe they will award me both the head and the tail. Expect me back by the apocalypse.” Good hunting, Doctor Thompson. You’ll be missed.

Though I had the utmost respect for the good doctor, I must say that when people commit suicide, it pisses me off. First of all, how could you do something like that to the people who care about you? It’s so selfish. I don’t know Thompson’s personal life, and maybe he was sick or something? I mean sick as in actually sick, not as in in the head. Anyone who’s read or seen Fear and Loathing can tell you he was certainly the latter.

But damn, Doctor, couldn’t you have taken some pills or drown yourself in a bathtub or something? Not only do you kill yourself, but you leave a huge mess for someone to clean up.

I remain fairly suspect of the claim that he took his own life. I never knew the man personally, and perhaps his family has accepted the possibility that he was capable of such an act, but he seemed so fierce and tenacious, so driven to be the bulldog latched onto the pantleg of corruption and power. I just can't imagine why he'd take his own life, especially when the current administration has provided so much continual fodder for such a political antagonist as Thompson.

He made a career out of pissing off a whole lot of people, many of whom would be happy to see him go.

As sad as it is, I am not surprised at all that he took his own life (not that is actually what occurred). Underlying almost all of his writings was a man with deep discord and discontent. He never seemed to get to a point of acceptance about much of anything. His drug misadventures were so over the top, that it's hard not to see a deeply self-destructive narrative in his life. Like many poignant writers before him, he went out in a blaze.

suicide is certainly not the sole domain of poignant writers but it is the domain of those who despair.the doctor wasn`t after glory so much as an end to the crap,i suspect.reboot.

Alistair, if you notice I was very careful not to end it with the word 'glory', but a blaze it was.

BTW, I can't get your website: http://www.tools4change.ca Sounds interesting.

Paul-
HST's "deep discord & discontent" was probably reflective of the B.S. we are fed on a daily basis by the "suits".

He was a pioneer...redefining the edge continually,as far as his "drug misadventures being over the top",well that's just a matter of opinion, some color outside the borders, some don't!

You were one hell of a writer.

It's sad to know that he's gone, but I don't think he'd want us to feel sad. I think that he'd want us, if anything, to be more focused in what we do. Peace to the dude, another great spirit makes it back home.

Classic line btw LV, it's funny when Benicio Del Toro acting as the Dr is waving his arms around in that scene from the film, and the way they make the entrance into that airport has had me laughing like crazy a good few times.

That and Spinal Tap have been the 2 funniest films I've ever seen for a good while now, and even though I share your doubts about exactly how Hunter left us, I'm still happy at the thought that he's in peace.

Thanks again Hunter.
