Open-Source Magick

Now we're talking:

The Open Source Order of the Golden Dawn

"The revelation of the once-secret Hermetic symbols and philosophies that are the foundation of the Golden Dawn's system has long since occurred, yet we still see Lodges swearing their Aspirants to absolute secrecy with mighty oaths of death and destruction, if they dare to reveal to the uninitiated the "secret knowledge" which the uninitiated could buy cheaply at a used book store. We see no reason to follow this defunct and even harmful approach.

Instead, following the demonstrably advantageous practice of the Open Source Software movement, we build our Order on the sources of knowledge that are accessible to anyone. Our sources are already open; we simply affirm this obvious fact. We have no "secrets" to conceal, in particular those that have already been revealed. And in any case, the era of artificial secrecy is at an end. Ours is the Information Age, and we embrace it fully. Therefore we ordain and establish our order as the Open Source Order of the Golden Dawn."

..what needs to be at the centre of all and every magickal communities and magickal order and magickal gathering and magickal act of intent must be the ability to evolve beyond stale dead and obsolete 'techniques' that grows only to narrow and inhibit the potential for a greater level of magick and magickal intent...

anyone and everyone willing to learn and study magick must become deeply aware to the tempations of falling into magickal d0gma designed to empower the few and enslave the many willing to learn how to use magick to invoke their true and only will:

...as the internet provides greater access to the necessary information required by any and every magi: to remain fluid and to remain deeply evolving as an individual towards the realisation and subsequent activation of an individual's true will--

systems are only created to invoke the necessary raw materials from and then those systems must become overturned in order for those raw materials to become utilised in a manner that will create further rituals that are used and utilised to expand upon the essences of one's true will:

if these systems are not overturned: the act and the art of fundamental becomes assured and therefore true will falls negated to the tentacles of eGO.

I agree that magick must continually evolve. However, the antithesis of a spiritual system becoming insular and dogmatic can be the hyperindividuation of the practitioner. In other words, just a magickal systems can stagnate into fraternal membership or elite priesthoods, they can also lead people to extreme states of self-deification, believing their will is more important than anything else.

My concern is for those practitioners who become lost in their own mythologies and neglect the people and nature around them. Modern magick should, IMHO, be wielded with great integrity and care, and brought to bear upon the local and global problems afflicting out existence. I believe that magick should proceed from a place of devotion, not power.
